Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Lamp

Have you ever laid eyes on a recycled product that you could actually call handsome?  We think these are ...

These handsome lamps are made from retired components from up to three different vintage motorcycles, constructed using a spring, shock absorber, brake rotor and transmission gear — all welded together to add a bit of quirky moto flair to any room.

"There's no telling what adventures this lamp had in its previous life. But now it can live on as a gift for your favorite moto enthusiast — or yourself."

Hubcap Creatures

We discovered something quite special over on UpcycledWorld's facebook page.  Critters made entirely from recycled materials; hubcaps found, usually on the side of the road, therefore still bear scars of their previous lives.

These remarkably detailed Hubcap creatures, are made by UK artist Ptolemy Elrington

Eco Speakers

A chic, ingenious way to recycle cardboard

Tau Eco Speakers

Tau Speakers are made from recycled materials; almost entirely of corrugated cardboard. Andrej Cverha of HANGAR DESIGN FORGE stacked layers of corrugated paper for them to take organic shapes before smoothing them over with a white glaze and an epoxy finish. Each elegant transmitter is poised atop a set of sticks that encases unsightly cords, making Tau Speakers strike a graceful harmony in space, sound and nature. Ultimately, the Tau Speakers are a great addition to the plethora of eco-chic products released this year.

Recycled Glass

According to Planet Green Recycling Centre, glass is not particularly friendly to our planet:

 Glass
  • It takes approximately 1 million years for a glass bottle to break down in a landfill.
  • In the U.S. today, 34% of all glass containers are recycled.
  • Most bottles and jars contain at least 25% recycled glass.
  • Glass never wears out - it can be recycled forever.
  • Recycling glass saves 25-32% of the energy used to make glass.
  • Glass containers save 9 gallons of fuel (oil) for every ton of glass recycled.
1 MILLION YEARS?  That's a really long time.  Lets have a look at some creative ways to reuse glass:

Jar etching for decorative feature

 Image and words c/o recyclart

"Glass etching can be incredibly beautiful, but often it is done with a caustic chemical, which is bad for the user and the environment. This recycled jar was etched with a dremel tool, and results in a organic yet beautiful finish. This jar shows an etching of the Hokusai’s Wave."
